How to Create a Turnitin Assignment

Creating a Turnitin Assignment is as easy as creating a regular Assignment in Blackboard. Here are the steps:

1. In your course, toggle Edit Mode at the top right to "On".

2. Click the area on the left side in the course menu into which you want to post the Turnitin Assignment (e.g. the "Assignments" section)

3. Select "Turnitin Assignment" from the "Create Assessment" button:

Click the Submit button at the top to post the assignment:

5. Click Submit, and OK.

    A Note About File Types:

Turnitin currently accepts the following file types for submission: MS Word (.doc, .docx), WordPerfect (.wpd), PostScript (.eps), Portable Document Format (.pdf), HTML (.htm, .html), Rich Text (.rtf) and Plain Text (.txt).

All files submitted to Turnitin must contain actual text (not just a picture of text, for example). Papers which have been scanned must be sent through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software before they can be submitted to Turnitin.

The file size may not exceed 20 MB. Files of larger size may be reduced in size by removal of non-text content or the instructor may be contacted to request multiple assignments to submit the document in sections.

.zip files are not included in the list of file types that are accepted by Turnitin. Please uncompress .zip files to one of the above listed formats before uploading to Turnitin. Turnitin does not accept PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) files. To accept PowerPoint files, have the students convert them to PDF files before submission to Turnitin, or use a regular Blackboard Assignment instead of a Turnitin Assignment.
