Officials pull person from lake off Wilmette beach
The Coast Guard and other emergency personnel recovered a person from the waters of Lake Michigan at Gillson Park in Wilmette this evening.
The search began sometime after 6 p.m. in the water off the beach near Sheridan Road and Michigan Avenue in the North Shore suburb, and the search ended about 7 p.m. when a male of unknown age was pulled from the water.
A witness saw officials pull the person from the water and put him onto a stretcher while performing CPR. The person was then placed into a Wilmette fire ambulance and taken from the scene.
No condition was available.
There were "several companies in Gillson Park for a rescue," said Wilmette Fire Department Duty Chief Paul Berguist. He declined further comment. Wilmette Police referred all calls to the Coast Guard. Officials there would not confirm any information as of 7:55 p.m.
In addition to the Coast Guard and Wilmette, responders from Park Ridge, Deerfield-Bannockburn, Winnetka, Northbrook, Glenview, Highland Park, Evanston, Skokie and Glencoe all were at the scene during the search.
The person was found in the water on the beach side of the jetty that protects the entrance to Wilmette Harbor, which is near the border of Evanston and Wilmette.
