ROME, ILLINOIS - Chillicothe Police Chief Steve Maurer was arrested and booked on charges of driving under the influence Monday night. According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department, Maurer was stopped on Second Street because of having no tail lights on a trailer he was hauling.
The officer smelled alcohol on Maurer’s breath and began questioning him. Maurer refused to take a Breathalyzer test until a lieutenant arrived, according to police.
Once the lieutenant arrived, Maurer continued to refuse to blow before failing a field sobriety test, police said.
