Teen charged with DUI, slaying of girl who died chasing ball into street



A teenage boy was charged today with drunken driving and reckless homicide in the death of a 4-year-old girl killed this spring as she ran after a ball in her Tinley Park neighborhood, police said.



Police did not release the identity of the 17-year-old, who they said in a release has been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence and appeared in Bridgeview Court this afternoon for a bond hearing. Police did not make clear whether the boy was charged as an adult or cited as a juvenile.



He is charged in the death of Annabella Loerop, who famiy knew as Bella.



Bella was hit by a Buick driven by the boy, then 16, in the 6500 block of 175th Street on May 9 about 4 p.m., authorities said.



Police said a neighbor told them the girl was hit and killed as she chased a ball into the street.



The boy charged was the driver of the car.



Police would release no further details about the charges this evening.
