A King County deputy shot and seriously wounded a man Friday night after being dispatched to deal with a domestic-violence call in the Boulevard Park area, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
Two deputies responded about 10:40 p.m. to a 911 call of a disturbance between a husband and wife at an apartment on Des Moines Memorial Drive. The caller said the man was assaulting his wife.
Two minutes after deputies arrived, one of them shot the husband, who had a knife, the Sheriff's Office said.
No information was available Saturday about whether the man was actively threatening the woman or the officers at the time the deputy fired.
The wife and two other females were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, said Sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.
The wounded man, 36, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition was listed as serious late Saturday.
The deputy who shot the man has worked for the Sheriff's Office for at least 25 years, Urquhart said; he and the other officer will be placed on routine administrative leave.
About a year ago, sheriff's deputies responded to a call at that apartment, Urquhart said. The man was arrested on domestic-violence charges then.
Urquhart said the man lives at the apartment with his 35 year-old wife. He has a current no-contact order in place prohibiting contact between him and his wife and children.
The case is being investigated by King County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit, with detectives from the Bothell Police Department. "Extra eyes don't hurt," Urquhart said. "We want to make sure that the public has confidence in our investigation of an officer-involved shooting."
The incident occurred at the 10000 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive in unincorporated King County, Washington.
