Socialite and reality TV star Kim Kardashian isn't wasting any time in starting a family with new husband Kris Humphries - she was spotted buying a pregnancy kit during the newlyweds' brief honeymoon in Italy. A fellow holidaymaker tells Life and Style magazine the Keeping Up With The Kardashians beauty was spotted buying the kit from a pharmacy in Arsenali on 25 August (11) - five days after she wed basketball player Humphries.

Singer Tom Jones was released from hospital in Monaco on Tuesday (30Aug11) following a health scare over the weekend (27-28Aug11). The 71-year-old Welsh crooner was forced to cancel a show at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo on Saturday (27Aug11) - the final date of his three-month tour - when he fell ill. Reports suggested the It's Not Unusual hitmaker was admitted due to heart problems but his management later reassured fans the star was simply suffering from dehydration.

Mel Gibson agreed Wednesday to pay out $750,000 to his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, over the next five years, People reports. Grigorieva, 41, also gets to continue living in a Los Angeles home that belongs to the actor, 55. The couple will share 50-50 custody of their daughter, Lucia. Thus ends one of the ugliest tabloid dust-ups in recent memory, which kicked off when Grigorieva accused Gibson of domestic assault in 2010. The whole debacle culminated in the release, by Grigorieva, of several not-very-flattering tapes that featured an enraged, panting Gibson bellowing obscenities and abuses.

As many of you are aware, while the lockout continues, many of our favorite NBA players have headed to foreign lands to play hoops. Not a shock. Li Na has gone from a steely competitor to a forlorn figure in the short space of less than three months. After winning her first major at Roland Garros, it seemed that Na was ready to carry that momentum into the U.S. Open but fell to pieces before our eyes on Tuesday.
Na committed 54 unforced errors and looked exasperated as she struggled against 53rd ranked Simona Halep. The young Romanian pushed out Na in straight sets (6-2, 7-5.) Once again, Na exited the U.S. Open in the opening round for the second year in a row.

If it seemed like Na was imploding in the court, that was nothing compared to her post-match press conference where she let fly an expletive. Clearly, she was feeling a strong mix of frustration, disappointment and helplessness. “Now I even lose all the confidence on the court,” she said. “I was feeling, ‘Oh, tennis is just too tough for me. French Open is like three months (ago) already.”
It’s astounding to see how quickly Na fell from the perch of French Open champion to a first round loss at the U.S. Open. As her quotes suggest, she’s clearly a confidence player. Na fed off her confidence to reach the Australian Open Final and reign supreme at Roland Garros but her lack of it at Flushing Meadows led to her downfall.
Na was expected to go far this time around at the U.S. Open. The competitive spirit that helped her defeat Caroline Wozniacki at the Australian Open and Maria Sharapova at the French Open quickly evaporated when things weren’t going her way against Halep.
Tuesday’s shock exit proves that big stage events like the U.S. Open require as much mental strength as it does physical ability. Na was her own worst enemy and can only blame herself for not advancing into the second round.

A $30.5 million federal grant will be used to renovate a Woodlawn affordable housing complex in a move city leaders hope makes the building an anchor for revitalizing the neighborhood.
Chicago was one of five U.S. cities to get an inaugural “Choice Neighborhoods Initiative” grant. The city will join with the not-for-profit Preservation of Affordable Housing, which won the grant by proposing to fix up the Grove Parc Plaza, a federally subsidized 504-unit building built in the 1960s.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday pointed to a recent development agreement with the University of Chicago –- which has its campus in nearby Hyde Park and the edge of Woodlawn –- and a retooled initiative to fight foreclosures that includes West Woodlawn as evidence of a focus on making sure public money is going where it can really help.
“It’s all part of an economic strategy, making sure dollar for dollar, we’re not just trying to spread it everywhere,” Emanuel said. “We’re investing and doubling down our resources in a community so people can go to work, people can raise a family, and we can turn a neighborhood around.”
Shaun Donovan, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, joined Emanuel, Democratic U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin and Democratic U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush to announce the grant award outside the complex in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
“Starting with Grove Parc is exactly the right thing to do, because Grove Parc is ground zero for all of the challenges this community faces: disinvestment, failing schools, troubled housing and, most pernicious of all, a lack of fundamental opportunities for the families and children growing up here,” Donovan said.
Donovan said “Choice Neighborhoods” is unlike other federal anti-poverty programs because it attempts to bring together disparate social service agencies to improve local schools and tries to bring in businesses like grocery stores, while teaming with neighborhood organizations and police to fight crime in targeted areas.
The $30.5 million grant will be used to try to leverage up to $272 million in total investments from various organizations, Donovan said.
