Rash of black pregnant women being shot in Chicago

A woman eight months pregnant was shot and wounded Monday afternoon on the Far South Side as she was riding in a car with her boyfriend and mother, police said today.

About 3:45 p.m., a gunman ran into the street toward the car in the 11300 block of South Calumet Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood and opened fire, said Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

The 21-year-old woman's boyfriend, who was driving, was not hit, nor was the woman's mother in the back seat, Kubiak said. But she was wounded in the lower hip. The motive for the shooting was unclear.d

Her boyfriend drove her to Roseland Community Hospital. She was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Police are investigating.
