Two men were charged this morning with the strangulation of a Mount Greenwood neighborhood man found in the city's Little Village neighborhood.

The dead man, Christopher Pinkins, was discovered in the 3000 block of South Pulaski Road at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after Chicago police received a call of a person with a knife in the area, authorities said.

Charged with first-degree murder were Osmar Alejo, 25, of the 3000 block of South Tripp Avenue, and Santiago Garcia, 46, of the 3000 block of South Harding Avenue.

Pinkins, of the 4000 block of West 115th Street, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, authorities said.

Police originally believed that Pinkins injuries came from a beating with a crowbar, but an autopsy performed Wednesday determined that he died from strangulation and that the death was a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The men were taken into custody shortly after Pinkins was found, but police didn't say what led them to the two men. They are scheduled to appear in bond court later today.
