Verizon Mistakenly Leaks Video Of The Touchscreen-Sporting BlackBerry Bold 9930

Screen shot 2011-07-26 at 8.49.15 AM
Mistakes happen. Sometimes they spur a round of seriously unwanted consequences, but every once in a while, a mistake pays off. Maybe not for the person who screwed up, which in this case would be someone in charge of Verizon’s website, but definitely for us. If you have yet to pick up what I’m putting down, this morning brought with it another leak — the BlackBerry Bold 9930.
Verizon accidentally posted a video demo of the Bold 9930 in place of what should be a video demo of the BlackBerry Bold 9650. So if you find yourself on the Verizon site browsing through the smartphones, go ahead and click through to the Bold 9650. If you click into the video, a Verizon rep named Blake will appear in a demo and tell you how great the BlackBerry Bold 9930 is.
Full News>>
According to Blake, the 9930 is the thinnest BlackBerry ever and will run the latest version of BlackBerry 7 OS. The phone touts a 1.2 GHz processor and a 5-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and flash that is capable of video capture in 720p. Blake also promises that the new 9930 has a larger QWERTY keyboard than older BlackBerry models along with 8GB of internal memory expandable with a 32GB microSD card.
Here’s the best part: You can dump that pesky optical track pad altogether if you want. If you like it, then by all means, flick on. But for those of us who prefer cold capacitive glass under our fingertips, the new BlackBerry Bold 9930 will sport a 2.8-inch touchscreen display featuring pinch-to-zoom functionality.
I just spent some time with the Motorola XPRT, which has a pretty similar form-factor, and I can easily say I prefer a full physical QWERTY paired with a touchscreen much more than a track pad-only option. Check the video after the break.

Blackberry Bold 9900 Coming To Three In September ?

Apple, BlackBerry, Icloud, Hollywood
The Blackberry Bold 9900 was announced last month and it has now appeared on Three's Coming Soon page. The launch date of the new flagship Blackberry Smartphone is listed as September !

Unlike a lot of other Blackberry smartphones , which tend to have mid-range specifications, the Bold 9900 is at the cutting edge of mobile technology.

The Bold 9900 is driven by a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor and has 768MB of RAM, which is more power than is usually seen on Blackberry devices. The on-board memory comes in at a solid 8GB, which is a good amount for storing data, photos and documents.

The user-interface should also prove fantastic because the Bold 9900 has a 2.8 inch touch-screen, as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. When combined with the new Blackberry 7 operating system the Bold 9900 should be a joy to use.

One of the most advanced aspects of the Bold 9900 is that it supports NFC, which enables you to pay for items contactlessy using your mobile. A 5 mega-pixel camera is also present which can shoot great photos and videos.

The price of the Bold 9900 on Three has yet to be unveiled but we'd anticipate it to be available free on the One Plan for around £35 a month.

BlackBerry News 1.0 for BlackBerry PlayBook Now Available!

BlackBerry News for BlackBerry PlayBook
We’re excited to announce the availability of BlackBerry® News for the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront! We’ve optimized the news reading experience to accommodate the larger screen size the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet provides, as well as leveraged all gesture support to help immerse you in your news.

With BlackBerry News, you can add any RSS feed from your favorite news sites, favorite blogs, or other popular sites with syndicated content, so all the news you’ve subscribed to comes to you in one place. This application is an extension of the BlackBerry News Feeds application currently available for BlackBerry smartphones.
This application is currently available in the US and Canada, and will be available in other countries later this year.
Accessing and reading feeds
BlackBerry News takes advantage of your BlackBerry® ID, so if you are a BlackBerry News Feeds user on the BlackBerry smartphone side, your subscription will be automatically brought over and synced up between both BlackBerry smartphone and BlackBerry tablet applications.
First-time users of BlackBerry News – specifically those using the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet – will notice curated news feeds in specific categories, where we’ve chosen multiple content providers to populate content. The curated feeds come in the following categories: Arts & Entertainment, Business, Health & Lifestyle, News Headlines, Science & the Environment, Technology, and Travel. These news feeds are exclusively available for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet version of the BlackBerry News app, and can be found in the “News Categories” section of the app if you’re looking for a way to subscribe to those feeds.
Clicking on a subscription then gets you to an abbreviated summary view of articles within that news feed, so you can quickly scan headlines, view images and a short description of the article to determine if you want to read more of the article. You can swipe to the left to get the next page of articles, and repeat the gesture to get to the last available article.
Once you find an article you want to read, just touch on the article and you’ll be presented with a full article view.
BlackBerry News for BlackBerry PlayBook
If you’re going to be in a place where network access is unavailable, the BlackBerry News application also provides offline access to your previously downloaded feed content, so you can still read downloaded articles while you’re out of range from a Wi-Fi® signal. Acquiring new content requires connection to a Wi-Fi signal.
Adding new news feeds
You can add your own subscriptions to RSS feeds by hitting the “News Library” button. Once in the News Library, you can either search for a specific feed that you’re looking to add, or you can browse through the content library to find some of the more popular and well-known feeds. As search is currently limited to feeds indexed in the content library of the application, it’s possible you may not be able to find the RSS feed you’re looking for. In those cases, you can input the URL of the site that has the news feed that you want to add, and the app will detect if the news feeds are available for you to subscribe to.
Your subscriptions will be synced up with your BlackBerry ID, so if you’re on the go without your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, you can always catch up on the news through your BlackBerry smartphone by using our BlackBerry News Feeds application available in BlackBerry App World.

Unsubscribing to news feeds and updating content
From the “My News” home screen in the BlackBerry News application, you can use the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet bezel drop-down gesture to pull up an options menu, where you’ll be able to update your content or edit and delete any subscriptions you don’t want anymore.

What You Might Have Missed

BeBlank by SCrid2000

BeBlank by SCrApps

Ever find the perfect theme for your BlackBerry, then realize it has a weather slot or dock that you just don't like? Or maybe you normally like the layout, but there is an icon or two covering up your kid's head in that picture you want to use as a wallpaper. No need to give up on that theme, now you can add in blank icons to help eliminate this problem! BeBlank is a new application from SCrApps that adds in blank placeholder type icons so your screen has the appearance of gaps between icons, wherever you want them.
BeBlank comes in 4 versions, each containing different numbers of the blank icons. You can choose from 6, 12, and 24 icons for $.99, $1.99, and $2.99 respectively, or if you'd like just one icon to try out you can download that version for free. When you install the version of BeBlank you choose, you will see that the corresponding number of icons has been added to your app screen. From there you can move them where you need them, and hide any extras you don't need. Since they are simply blank icons, you use the same menu options for moving and hiding them as you would for any other icon. All-in-all this is a pretty neat little app for anyone out there that wants a little more control over the way themes look on their BlackBerry. The single icon, free version of BeBlank can be downloaded from any of the links below.
