Gipper's Greatest Hits: Reagan Crushes the Air Traffic Controllers' Union Like an Insect

In August 1981, President Ronald Reagan faced down an audacious countrywide air traffic controllers strike that threatened to paralyze the nation's transportation system.

But the walkout violated a regulation prohibiting government unions from striking, so declaring the situation a federal emergency -per 1947 Taft Hartley Act- the President held a press conference in the White House Rose Garden to issue an ultimatum...

Reagan warned that if the air traffic controllers 
"do not report for work within 48 hours, 

they have forfeited their jobs and will be terminated."

Many thought he was bluffing at the time, but despite fear of a political backlash emanating from some of his cabinet on August 5 1981 Ronald Reagan made plain he was not bluffing by firing every last one of the 11,345 striking air traffic controllers who had ignored his order to return to work.

Small wonder then that -despite early direct support of the Wisconsin demonstrators through Organizing for America- Team Obama is now quickly working to build distance between themselves and the pugnacious unions' unpopular cause. In the end, looks like another rabble-rousing FAIL for our insolent Community-Organizer-in-Chief and his neo-Bolshevik cronies... like Richard Trumka.

Polls indicate that Wisconsin voters already see more principled leadership in Gov Scott Walker's admission of stark fiscal reality than than a bunch of AWOL Dem senators allied to a labor racket our completely-broke country can simply no longer afford to underwrite.

Chairman Zero's latest shameful attempt to scar this society with lasting divisions across socio-economic lines for his own political benefit involves Organizing for America, the astroturf rabble-rousing organization created for Team Obama by now WH advisor David Plouffe in 2008, and currently  operated as an arm of the Democratic National Committee...

Fox:

The Democratic National Committee's Organizing for America arm -the remnant of the 2008 Obama campaign- is playing an active role in organizing protests against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's attempt to strip most public employees of collective bargaining rights. 

...OfA Wisconsin's field efforts include filling buses and building turnout for the rallies this week in Madison, organizing 15 rapid response phone banks urging supporters to call their state legislators, and working on planning and producing rallies, a Democratic Party official in Washington said. 

Other key figures in the Left's unholy alliance are also doing their duty, i.e. the Teamster's Grand Palooka Richard Trumka storming-off to the front on the Rust Belt to crush the unions' class enemies- he's speaking in Madison at Noon today.

But House Speaker Rep John Boehner sharply criticized the Obama Administration's siding with the unions to pressure Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker with street mobs... as well he should: not only were the GOP handed a 60+ seat gain to put the brakes on the Obammunists' leftward lurch, but Boehner's own state of Ohio is next in the union/hopenchange cross-hairs. 

Moonbattery summed it up succinctly (highlights mine):

In the clear choice between pathologically greedy teachers unions on one side, and the children who are going untaught and their bled-dry taxpaying parents on the other, where did you expect Comrade Obama to come down? 

In addition to whatever backroom machinations are taking place, the Manchurian Moonbat publicly splashed gasoline on the flames by denouncing Governor Walker's acknowledgment of fiscal reality as "an assault on unions." 

Elect a man whose only real political experience is as a "community organizer" (i.e., Marxist rabble-rouser), and you would be a fool to expect anything else...

Barney Frank Employing Plants Now?

For fans of political theatre, the next couple months ought to provide some epic entertainment as the arrogant and detached Democrats' Big Bang legislative scheme does a face-plant... and the statists that planned to foist this on us scramble to save what they can of their agenda, power, and dignity.

Here's a great post from California patriot Left Coast Rebel, who did an impressive bit of virtual-gumshoe work in catching Mr Frank using what appears to be a plant from the union -or his staff- to play act in front of the local news cameras up in Beantown. These sort of cynical charades seems to be running rampant among nervous Democrats now... not just Team Obama.

These are guys are getting plenty desperate, and the next 40-60 days might be pretty comical as they try to keep ObamaCare together with chewing gum and duct-tape.
