Hey Green Europe, Meet Environmental Hypocrite Barack Obama and His Eight Tons of Diesel-Guzzling Detroit Iron

Global Warming allies left scratching their heads as
Dear Leader arrives at summit in a 8mpg Panzer...

Most Americans are no longer surprised by Obama's do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do liberal duplicity on issues such as smoking, green lifestyles, or personal modesty/frugality.  And anyone who did actual DD on Obama's environmental platform back in '08 can tell you his last ride before arriving in DC to heal the earth was a 300hp Chrysler 300 Hemi.

But the starry-eyed European Left is still coming out of the hopenchange ether, so many of them were appalled that even as the EU's left-leaning leaders -Obama's best carbon-trading allies in the world- were arriving at summits in Portugal this week on bikes and in electric cars, diplomatic klutz Obama showed up with the standard monster... one that weighs over 3x as much as a normal Caddy:
While the Portuguese prime minister and the Portuguese president of the European Union’s executive commission are tooling around the NATO summit here in no-emission electric vehicles, Mr. Obama is fouling the Lisbon skies with his no-efficiency "Beast," the eight-ton, diesel-fueled behemoth of a limousine the president carts around the world with him.

Obama is expected to discuss climate change and a common US-Europe approach to it when he takes part in a US-European Union (EU) summit after the NATO meeting on Saturday. But in the meantime, the Portuguese capital is being treated to a jarring dichotomy: the polluting "leader of the free world," on one hand, lumbering across town in the Beast with a phalanx of black Secret Service vehicles and Portuguese police motorcycles in tow; and the Europeans zipping around in smart electric vehicles, on the other. Oh, and to drive the point home, journalists attending the summit are being ferried to events in electric buses, as well.

A “note to the media” left at every journalist’s work station in the summit press center says the use of electric vehicles is meant to raise awareness of Portugal’s “world pioneering leadership in electric mobility.” Portugal claims to derive 45 percent of its electricity consumption from “clean” energies. Its “Mobi.E” electric mobility network – with 100 charging stations in 25 municipalities around the country, set to rise to 1,300 charging points by mid-2011 – is considered a world leader.

But the Portuguese press is more interested in the Beast. Pages in Lisbon newspapers have been dedicated to cutaway renderings of “Cadillac One,” with charts and boxes offering every detail of the vehicle that the Secret Service divulges: the Kevlar tires, the special foam in the gas tank to immediately extinguish any fire from a direct hit, the supply of presidential blood...

European Left Rapidly Imploding

The socialist parties and policies that Barack Obama so blindly emulates are now in dramatic retreat throughout Europe... as many in the EU finally figure out that none of this big-government stuff works. So why are we saddling our future with monstrous debts- just to adopt such failed, discredited approach in our country?

Pity Europe's Socialists. It's getting lonely on the left.
Just when you might think capitalism's global crisis would breathe new life into the left, it's looking increasingly divided and tired. German Chancellor Angela Merkel's re-election a week ago is highlighting a conservative surge in her country and Europe's other powerhouse economies — Britain, France and Italy — where the center-right is either firmly in power or about to get there.
What happened?
More from the AP/Yahoo -here-
Note how the left-leaning AP attempts -as did the NYT recently- to chalk this up to the European Right co-opting much of the socialist platform... a very helpful argument for their pal Barack, indicating not that liberal ideas are dead... but rather, that the GOP should adopt them!
Meanwhile, Angela Merkel trounced the Left last week, and she did it while making plenty clear to all that she plans to implement conservative, pro-business policies and tax cuts long blocked by her socialist coalition partners (now out of government).
But she's not a real conservative because she's accepted national health care as a permanent reality? LOL, they've had it over a hundred years in Germany... no politician in their right-mind would try to take away an century-old entitlement like this... and all the more reason for us to be cautious before we take the plunge, eh?
The bottom line is Europeans today want less government, not more... and that they learned this the hard way. Why must we repeat their expensive errors and 30-yr learning-curve in America all over again?
Seems absolutely idiotic- doesn't it?

Socialists Crushed in Germany

A
s
Americans suffer through four years of a clueless "Progressive" administration, voters of Europe are running-away from the outdated statist model Obama emulates like somebody yelled "fire".

And although a typical European "conservative" is still more amiable to state intervention/welfare than their American counterparts, the rise of those like Sarkozy and Angela Merkel -who grew-up in Communist East Germany and knows the pitfalls of socialism first hand- shows a clear trend... socialists and big-government solutions throughout most of the continent are in decline.

Predictions of a close German election for the Bundestag were not to be, as the CDU's strong showing at the polls provided the votes needed to govern with Merkel's preferred partners this time, the pro-business Free Democrats- rather than with the leftist, anti-American SDP in a so-called grand coalition. This arrangement has kept her needed reforms hamstrung for four years... right-up until the SPD was trounced yesterday.

As noted at American Thinker:
Merkel can form a right of center government in Germany. The Christian Democrats remain the strongest party in the Bundestrat... This means that Merkel can now pursue those policies that she actually feels will help revitalize the private sector in Germany and that German foreign policy.
The percentage of the vote received by the Socialist SDP in this election was the lowest since the end of the Second World War... the socialist left of Barack Obama and the Democrat Party is wildly unpopular in the most important democracy in Europe.
Looks like the Merkel platform of lower taxes, nuclear energy, and market solutions to economic problems made sense to increasingly-pragmatic German voters... more -here-
