White Peony Watercolor Painting - Update 5
I am still working on my peony, not as often as I would like. It is still not close to being done, hopefully I will be able to give it more of my attention. I have also been busy experimenting with acrylic and paper, also mounting and varnishing watercolor and acrylic used as watercolor. I will post some of my pieces hopefully tomorrow when I get a chance. I am also busy painting for a solo show in the spring of 2012. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog I appreciate it, I also welcome comments and suggestions. Have a great night everyone
Vancouver Art in the Heart, mermaid painting in progress + more Wise Woman body painting photos
Had a wonderful weekend of art vending localized in Vancouver Washington- Oregon's close but often neglected neighbor who has quickly grown into a hub of the arts.
On Friday Danny and I drove over the bridge to Vancouver for "Craft in the Village" which happens each first Friday of the month.
Then on Saturday we made the drive over the bridge again and set up for "Art in the Heart" right outside of the Guerrilla Gallery where i am currently having 7 of my paintings on display:

It was an overcast day that managed to still be rather hot so i was again super happy to have my sunhat with me( this thing, as obviously huge as it is has saved me so many times this summer!)
I also made use of my time by working on my mermaid painting:

I like this shot of Danny's because you can see a slice of Vancouver in it. I love it's super old red brick buildings and calm small town vibe. I wish i could move to Vancouver and rent out one of these wonderfully huge live/work studio spaces in these surrounding old warehouse redbrick buildings. Vancouver's cost of living is significantly better then Oregon however i have been told its almost impossible to find a job. Ah well...a girl can dream.

I got a lot of work done on my mermaid while i was there. I added side fins, as seen in this photo but later on in the day i also added a lot more on her upper/hip fin area. I will take some more "work in progress photos" soon to share. I plan on putting a brigade of bubbles in the distance to hopefully hint at some depth. It is always a lot of fun to do "live painting" at these art events- it always creates a lot of interest. I love the exchange of conversation to be had over a work in progress piece. I had a very young lil lady come over and ask me if i had named the mermaid yet. I had not yet named her so i asked what she would name her. She said "I would name her Amber after the beautiful colors of her scales!"
So yes, "Art in the Heart" was a wonderful experience.
Sunday I reserved for some much needed "home body" time. I did some patio gardening, some much needed TLC in the art room- straightened everything up so that i can work in it again! The summer wreaks havoc on the art room because it gets torn apart every time we have an art fair to attend. Also managed to take a trip downtown to the "Saturday market" to say bye bye to an amazing artist and friend Anna Tadaro. She is moving to Chicago and will be missed by many!
Also, i wanted to share two more photos i posted recently from my body painting/photography session with Suzanne Owens-Duval:

I just love how strong and confident this pose is!

....and this one thrills me with how happy and comfortable she is in her skin- loving herself for who and what she is, loving and living life to the fullest!
A dear friend of mine recently suggested i pick up the book "Women Who Run With The Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, PH.D and i have found it to be extremely inspiring and perfect fuel for the creative fires for the women's study body painting project that i have been working on.
I found this quote from the book to go perfectly with the two photos of mine above:
“A healthy woman is much like a wolf: robust, chock-full, strong life force, life giving, territorially aware, inventive, loyal, roving. Yet separation from the wildish nature causes a woman’s personality to become meager, thin, ghostly, spectral. We are not meant to be puny with frail hair and inability to leap up, inability to chase, to birth, to create life. When Women’s lives are in stasis, ennui, it is always time for the wildish woman to emerge; it is time for the creating function of the psyche to flood the delta.”
- Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
Truth be told!
....more updates soon.
Best wishes,
-Chelsea Rose

Come check it out in person at Guerrilla Gallery -1001 Main St. (Upstairs)Vancouver, WA 98660
It was my first time participating in the "Art in the Heart" festival but i had great fun rockin to the live music and chatting with the local artists.
White Peony Watercolor Painting - update 4
It is slow going with the peony, I have to work on other things as well so I started an oil landscape and I also stretched some watercolor paper onto stretcher bars and I am doing a watercolor on that as well. This peony is 16x20 as well as the oil. the watercolor stretched is only 8x10. I did not want to get into anything big trying something new. I will post pictures of the others as soon as I get caught up. Happy Painting and have an awesome weekend everyone!

White Peony Watercolor Painting - Work in Progress WIP
This is the latest watercolor painting I am working on, it is a White Peony 16x20" on 200lb CP paper. I have started working on the background, I will add a couple more layers before moving to the petals of the peony. These peonies grows in my neighbors garden and they are so beautiful, I can sometimes be found early in the morning in my pjs sneaking through their yard taking pictures, with permission of course (for the pictures not the pj's lol ) Sometimes the light is just perfect and I know if I take the time to get dressed I will miss it. Thank goodness nobody else is up this early on my street :)

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Finished!
Just finished this one this morning. It is amazing the color difference when you actually shoot in daylight :) the blue is still a little off, but that's on my monitor who knows lol I calibrate my monitor with software and hardware and it is still a mystery to me.
It is sunny here today I am hoping that the temperature gets high enough for me to varnish this one today.

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 4
I am still working away on the vase, I think the tulips are just about right, I will continue to work on the crystal, one shape at a time, adding the same colors that I used for the tulips and background :) I also started a 16x20 white peony today and it was so nice with the sunshine I got to varnish 4 watercolor paintings out on the deck, wow what a difference the varnish makes when using the board.

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 3
Still continuing to develop the tulips and I have started to block in some of the color shapes of the crystal. I forgot how much I enjoy painting flowers, I am starting to paint for an upcoming show so I will be doing a lot more in the months to come. I have used the same colors for the pattern in the crystal as I have been using for the leaves and background. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend :)

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 2
I added the shadow from the vase and flowers with Cobalt + Perylene green and while it was wet I dropped in some winsor red. I worked more on the tulips and leaves. I meant to post sooner but as you can see I got carried away. I did use a bit of new gamboge on some of the leaves and a few of the tulip petals to warm them up some.

I worked some more on the leaves, glazing over the previously painted ones with hansa yellow. I started working on some of the the tulips (one petal at a time) with winsor red and winsor + cobalt for the shaded areas. I will probably put in the shadow from the vase next. Have a great night everyone, happy painting!

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting Step by Step demo on Art Board
This is the tulips and crystal painting I started while working on my last still life with Pee Wee. This is also 16x20 and done on the watercolor board. I set this still life up with the help of my shadow box (yes I am addicted to it) in my studio. I started the background with some cobalt blue dulled down with a tiny bit of dark green, then I started to define a few of the leaves with hansa, sap and cobalt.

Pee Wee in a Still Life Watercolor Painting - Work in Progress Update 4
An update on the still Life Watercolor Painting with Pee Wee the Elephant. I worked some more on the fabric, I did not like how the fabric was hitting the left edge of the bowl creating a distraction from the bowl so I scrubbed it some making it go behind the bowl. I will go back in once it is good and dry with more paint to blend it in with the rest of the fabric. I started working a little on the bowl and some on the pear and Pee Wee. Hope everyone has a great night!

Pee Wee in a Still Life Watercolor Painting - Work in Progress Update 2
I worked more on the shadows, adding indigo and maroon. I also worked on the fruit more, glazing the orange with new gamboge and adding some permanent green to the pears. I like to get my darkest point in early as I used it as a reference point for my other colors and values.

Pee Wee in a Still Life Watercolor Painting - Work in Progress
This is my latest watercolor painting I am working on, again I am using the Canson art board. It is 16x20" and I started off just blocking in the fabric with cobalt blue and a layer of B. Sienna on the shadows. I used Lemon yellow on the fruit. I picked this fruit bowl up at a local thrift shop. I have a whole shelf in my closet full of things I pick up to someday paint :)
