Fuchsia Flower - Acrylic on Paper

This is another Acrylic layered on paper and mounted to a wood painting support. It was actually finished before my pears. Since painting on the textured canvas I have completed a few more on the textured canvas, I will post them later when I get a chance. This picture has a bit of glare from the varnish, so around the edges are actually a little darker.

Acrylic Daffodil Painting on Paper (mounted on a wood support)

This is also acrylic done in the same manner as I would glaze my watercolors. It is 8x10" and mounted on a gallery wood support.

Echinacea Pink Cone Flowers Acrylic Painting on Paper

This was my next Acrylic on paper, I love the way the acrylics stay so bold and vibrant. This one is also mounted on a wood support.

Watercolor versus Acrylic - Clematis Painting done in Watercolor

This is the same clematis as in the Acrylic, I actually painted this one first in watercolor and then tried the acrylic version (see post before this one) There are things I really like about both versions, but I really like the fact that with the acrylic I do not have to worry about framing behind glass.

White Peony Watercolor Painting - Update 5

I am still working on my peony, not as often as I would like. It is still not close to being done, hopefully I will be able to give it more of my attention. I have also been busy experimenting with acrylic and paper, also mounting and varnishing watercolor and acrylic used as watercolor. I will post some of my pieces hopefully tomorrow when I get a chance. I am also busy painting for a solo show in the spring of 2012. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog I appreciate it, I also welcome comments and suggestions. Have a great night everyone

White Peony Watercolor Painting - update 4

It is slow going with the peony, I have to work on other things as well so I started an oil landscape and I also stretched some watercolor paper onto stretcher bars and I am doing a watercolor on that as well. This peony is 16x20 as well as the oil. the watercolor stretched is only 8x10. I did not want to get into anything big trying something new. I will post pictures of the others as soon as I get caught up. Happy Painting and have an awesome weekend everyone!

White Peony Watercolor Painting - update 3

Still working on my latest peony watercolor painting. I am just starting to develop some of the more shadowed petals, this will give me a reference to compare all of the rest to. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I also finished a painting of a green crab for a calendar to raise money for an educational aquarium, I will post about it later on when I get a chance.

Happy Painting!!

White Peony Watercolor Painting - WIP Update 2

I am working away on the shadowed parts of the petals, this is going to be a long one lol, I think I will start another painting so I have something to work on as this one is drying.

White Peony Watercolor Painting - WIP Update 1

I mainly worked on the background making it darker, I also started a couple of the petals.

White Peony Watercolor Painting - Work in Progress WIP

This is the latest watercolor painting I am working on, it  is a White Peony 16x20" on 200lb CP  paper. I have started working on the background, I will add a couple more layers before moving to the petals of the peony. These peonies grows in my neighbors garden and they are so beautiful, I can sometimes be found early in the morning in my pjs sneaking through their yard taking pictures, with permission of course (for the pictures not the pj's lol ) Sometimes the light is just perfect and I know if I take the time to get dressed I will miss it. Thank goodness nobody else is up this early on my street :)

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Finished!

Just finished this one this morning. It is amazing the color difference when you actually shoot in daylight :) the blue is still a little off, but that's on my monitor who knows lol I calibrate my monitor with software and hardware and it is still a mystery to me.
It is sunny here today I am hoping that the temperature gets high enough for me to varnish this one today.

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 4

I am still working away on the vase, I think the tulips are just about right, I will continue to work on the crystal, one shape at a time, adding the same colors that I used for the tulips and background  :) I also started a 16x20 white peony today and it was so nice with the sunshine I got to varnish 4 watercolor paintings out on the deck, wow what a difference the varnish makes when using the board.

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 3

Still continuing to develop the tulips and I have started to block in some of the color shapes of the crystal. I forgot how much I enjoy painting flowers, I am starting to paint for an upcoming show so I will be doing a lot more in the months to come. I have used the same colors for the pattern in the crystal as I have been using for the leaves and background. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend :)

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 2

I added the shadow from the vase and flowers with Cobalt + Perylene green and while it was wet I dropped in some winsor red. I worked more on the tulips and leaves.  I meant to post sooner but as you can see I got carried away. I did use a bit of new gamboge on some of the leaves and a few of the tulip petals to warm them up some.

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting WIP on Art Board - Update 1

I worked some more on the leaves, glazing over the previously painted ones with hansa yellow. I started working on some of the the tulips (one petal at a time) with winsor red and winsor + cobalt for the shaded areas. I will probably put in the shadow from the vase next. Have a great night everyone, happy painting!

Tulips and Crystal Watercolor Painting Step by Step demo on Art Board

This is the tulips and crystal painting I started while working on my last still life with Pee Wee. This is also 16x20 and done on the watercolor board. I set this still life up with the help of my shadow box (yes I am addicted to it) in my studio. I started the background with some cobalt blue dulled down with a tiny bit of dark green, then I started to define a few of the leaves with hansa, sap and cobalt.

Watercolor Painting of Mauve Day Lily finished!

I finished my other Day Lily that I had been working on, now I just need to decide which one is for what lol Thank you everyone for taking the time to look and comment on my blog, I really appreciate all of the support. Have a great night everyone :).. Oh and just to let you know that in the post before this one, those are curlers not my ears lol (my husband said .. are those your ears lol)

Pink Lily Watercolor Painting Finished!

I actually finished a painting lol, I have been working on this and another one of a mauve lily a long time. One is going to be for an article with a step by step, I am not sure which one I will use yet. The one I don't use I will post the step by step here eventually. I have been so busy this summer it has flown by, I am not sure where the time has gone. This one is 11x14, done on 200lb paper with mostly W&N paints. Thank you for stopping in. Have a great day!

My First Solo Show Ended Today

I went to St. Andrew's today to the gallery to pick up my artwork, it was been overall a great experience having a solo show. I sold 18 paintings and also received a couple of commissions. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sneak Peak at my Show!

Here I am just after my husband and I set up the show, my hair is a mess and I am exhausted, it was quite a bit more work than i thought it would be. Thank goodness for husbands :)

It is hard to see some of these because of the reflections on the glass from the windows.

It looks much more impressive in real life, but I thought it might be nice to post these for all of my friends who are too far away to come to the show.

The show will officially open on May 21st 2010 and will hang until July 30th 2010. A reception will take place June 6th 2 -4 PM. at the Art Gallery at Kingsbrae Garden in St. Andrews NB. The garden is unbelievable, for any of you who do not live in our area and you get a chance to come this way it is a must see! click here for directions http://www.kingsbraegarden.com/

I am sad to say that one of my favourite little Pygmy goats Dusty is no longer with us :(
