Krusada: Henry-Omaga Diaz reexamined the Manila Hostage Crisis

One year after tragic shameful event that gave the Philippines a bad reputation in handling hostage crisis situation will be reexamined by Henry-Omaga Diaz in ABS-CBN's “Krusada”. 

The incident showed the world how the local police failed to deliver a strategic operation plan plus the lack of proper equipment. The hostage-taking incident at Quirino Grandstand in Manila took the lives of eight tourists from Hongkong.

This episode airs Thursday (August 25) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

MLS All-Star Game and Azkals vs. Kuwait match will air in ABS-CBN Sports

The football fever in the country peaks today (July 28) as ABS-CBN Sports brings viewers two world-class matches on Studio 23, featuring football superstars David Beckham and Thierry Henry and our very own Philippine Azkals football team.

Before Phil Younghusband, Chieffy Caligdong, and Neil Etheridge lead the Azkals against Kuwait's Al-Azraq, watch Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Stars Beckham, Henry, and Donovan face-off with English Premier League’s Manchester United for this year’s much-anticipated MLS All-Star game.

This is the second time the Manchester United Red Devils, led by Wayne Rooney, was invited to play against the loaded MLS selection in the annual event. Last year, the Reds beat the All-Stars with a score of 5-2.

Team Azkals, the underdog after a 0-3 loss in the first leg held in Kuwait, is gearing up for a mighty return as it welcomes back suspended midfielder Stephan Schrock and team captain Aly Borromeo in the lineup.

'Patrol ng Pilipino' tackles PCSO Controversy

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is a government agency that conducts charity programs to provide medical assistance and other services but it seems it is also being tagged as the source of corruption for some politicians. ABS-CBN's "Patrol ng Pilipino" investigates the PCSO controversies and the people behind it.

ABS-CBN correspondent Kiko Faulve visits the diocese of the bishops involved in the scandal in which they were found to have received sports utility vehicles (SUVs) from the PCSO.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN correspondent Nico Baua investigates the situation involving the three depressed areas in Metro Manila that have been long denied by PCSO of their request for ambulances.

The controversies are being linked to the Arroyo administration and her allies.

Veteran actress Amy Austria-Ventura returns to ABS-CBN's high-rating teleserye, the "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” after taking a month break.

According to reports, Amy stayed 40 days in the hospital to undergo a total hysterectomy to avoid complications that may result from a mass found in one of her ovaries.

According to Kantar Media on Thursday (June 16) ratings, the series generated a national rating of 26.3% against GMA 7's “Munting Heredera" with 16.6%.

‘Patrol ng Pilipino’: Divorce bill is dividing Filipinos

Filipinos seem to be divided in the issue of divorce. In the online and text polls during the “Harapan: Divorce Bill Ipasa o Ibasura?” last Sunday (June 12), 52.46 percent voted to trash the bill, while 47.54 percent said the bill should be enacted to law.

This was the very first time on TV that known proponents and opposers of the bill, which would legalize divorce in the Philippines, were seen in a debate.

This Tuesday (June 14) on “Patrol ng Pilipino,” ABS-CBN correspondent Jing Castaneda will try to explore the facets of the divorce bill to see if our society is ready for this. After all, our country is the only nation in the world that bans divorce aside from the Vatican City.

In the latest survey conducted by the SWS last March 4-7, it found that 50% of Filipinos agree that divorce should be legalized and 33% disagree with it. This is far from the result of the 2005 survey, which showed only 43% of adult Filipinos agreeing with the legalization of divorce while 44% disagreed.

Jing said that while the Bible states it clearly that no man can separate what was joined by God, many wonder what should be done once the couple have lost respect and love for each other. She asked, “what if the children are affected by the conflicts within the marriage and the family isn’t just happy as it should be?”

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN correspondent Jeff Canoy will showcase the culture and tradition of one of the fastest-growing foreign communities in our country by observing a Sikh wedding.

"No need to travel to India to witness a wedding ceremony that celebrates the rich tradition of Sikhs. No June wedding has been this colorful in Paco, Manila," Jeff said.

Sharon Cuneta tacles obesity in 'Bigating Pinoy: The Biggest Loser Primer'

Actress Sharon Cuneta finally speaks up on her own fight against obesity this Sunday (May 15) in the primer for her upcoming reality show “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” on ABS-CBN.

In a rare TV interview, the Megastar will share the physical and emotional pains of people who are regarded by society as fat, obese, and heavy.

“Unfortunately, society judges you according to your physical appearance. It’s not really according to your abilities and your talents. Minsan kahit it’s very unfair, it’s a reality,” she explained.

But she is not the only one opening up on Sunday’s TV special, entitled Bigating Pinoy: The Biggest Loser Primer. To prove that obesity is a serious problem in the country that should be addressed, the primer will also show case studies featuring six “heavy” Pinoys.

The list includes seven-year-old child star Karl Camo of Goin’ Bulilit. While people find him cuddly and cute, he is also in a crucial state of child obesity. Danica, a 14-year-old, has to deal with greater pressure growing up because of her weight. Twenty-two-year-old Alvin, on the other hand, has been rejected over and over during job applications because he is fat. There is also Lorie, 33, who can’t bear a child because of excessive fat in her body. Forty-year-old Rowena, meanwhile, is a mom who won't attend her children’s graduation in fear that they will be teased by their classmates because of her. Finally, there is Reinnier, who at 25, already has a memorial plan due to the health risks of his obesity.

If you ask Sharon, she believes that there is still hope for all of them to improve their lives. That is if they begin taking care of their health like her. She said, “ The Biggest Loser Pinoy Editioncan be a source of inspiration to people like them, and even those who are perfectly fit and healthy. Kayang-kaya ‘yan. ‘Pag nakita niyo yung journey ng mga contestant to lose weight, I think representation din yan ng kaniya-kaniyang problemang pinagdadaanan natin, kahit hindi siya obesity,” Sharon stressed.

Kuya Kim celebrates Mother’s Day with the wild in “Matanglawin”

There’s certainly no other person who can love the same way as a mother, but does the same apply when it comes to the fierce and the wild?

This Mother’s Day, Kim Atienza pays tribute to the dedicated mothers of the animal kingdom and shows you how similar they are to humans in another exciting episode of “Matanglawin” this Sunday (May 8).

Just like humans, animals seem to show compassion and also have mother’s instincts so when Legadema the leopard and Kamunyak the lioness found a baby baboon and a baby gazelle, they took them in as their own young.
