Garry Shandling (11.29.1949) is an American comedian, actor and writer best known for his work in It's Garry Shandling's Show and The Larry Sanders Show. Born into a middle-class Jewish family in Chicago, Shandling was then raised in Tucson, AZ. Later as a young adult he moved-on to LA, starting out a creative career at an ad agency, writing scripts...
Garry Shandling soon broke into TV by successfully submitting an unsolicited script for a Sanford and Son episode (this became the one where Fred turns his junkyard into a Japanese restaurant lol). He came to write for other top network TV shows such as Three's Company and Welcome Back, Kotter.
Later Shandling made a successful stand-up performance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and subsequently became a frequent guest-host on the show throughout the early 80s. Shandling eventually evolved into the leading contender to replace Carson as host upon his pending retirement, a position that instead went to Jay Leno.
In 1986 Shandling created It's Garry Shandling's Showfor the pay cable channel Showtime, which was nominated for four Emmy Awards- it ran four seasons.
His second effort at a series -The Larry Sanders Show- hit the air on HBO in 1992, and was considerably more successful. Shandling was nominated for and impressive 18 Emmy Awards for the show and won in 1998, along with Peter Tolan, for writing the series finale.
During his three-decade career, Shandling has been nominated for 19 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, 11 CableACE Awards, a BAFTA Award, three American Comedy Awards, two Writers' Guild of America Award nominations, and two Satellite Award nominations, and more.
I myself was fortunate enough to have caught the stand up act live cca 1984, and he just killed- imo Garry Shandling's a comedy genius. WithBarack Obama'spoll numbers starting to look just a wee-bit shakey, and embarrassing TEA Party IIprotests about to put to bed the nonsensical Everyone-Just-Loves-Barackmyth, it's not by chance that now we see fresh attempts at baiting fake conflicts on the right... in-order to divert attention from the president's habitual dishonesty, hubris, disregard for the law/constitution/ethics, and general all-round incompetence, while keeping the GOP back-on-their-heels for 2010 and beyond.
And the most obvious conclusion that can be drawn from their words and actions is that the Democratic Party is terrified of Sarah Palin- pure and simple.
Nobodyin the GOP could care less what Colin Powell says... nor Meghan McCain, anonymous sources/"leaks" in Rolling Stone or Vanity Fair, blather from MSNBC'sObot-drones, repulsive "humor" from David Letterman, et al. But the left is attempting to create the appearance of ceaseless chaos and disunity within the Republican party- there's little doubt about that.
Various naive or disingenuous RINOs and other mysterious "sources" -with their puerile he said/she said statements- aren't news, and not relevant in any way. Obama and the MSM/left are simply exploiting them to create their own politically-useful stories and manufactured GOP "scandals".
The left have been employing despicableAlinsky-inspireddivide-and-conquer and character assassination techniques since before The Onewas even sworn-in… promoting synthetic “fights” like Limbaugh vs. Steele, in-addition to ceaseless ridicule of Jindal, Palin, and others- even shameful distortion of the legacy of Ronald Reagan. The strategy's larger purpose is to eliminate GOP rallying points and philosophical framework for 2010/12... while making the Republicans look like they're mired in petty, peripheral issues.
Now we again have yet another crude attack on Sarah Palin, factually inaccurate and mostly unsubstantiated by Vanity Fair so as to stir-the-pot, so then the press can descend upon various Republicans to try and quote them in contradiction to one another... same underhanded game for months now.
Typical in support of this effort is calculating articles like here on Politico- telling us all how "high profile" Republicans are allegedly fighting like cats-n-dogs regarding the recent Vanity Fair article on Sarah Palin. But Steve Schmidt is far from relevant- as a matter of fact after bungling the McCain campaign, his career has got to be over. But for some reason, the left hangs on his every word... how about that. Rather, I'd take Kristol's version of events- if you have any interest in the truth here.
As for Meghan McCain'slatest sage advice that Republicans forgive disgraced, irresponsible, and selfish Governor Mark Sanford... well, it's just about time that her daddy finally told her toshut up. I've never met one person in my life who gives two hoots what this girl has to say- whyshould they?
The fact is that this poor thing is so hungry for her 15 mins of fame... but sadly is too dumb to see she's only being put on TV as atool of the Alinskyite left, and with no greater moral or intellectual authority than, say, a Levi Johnston. But now that she's had a taste, she can't handle going back to hang-out at the mall in obscurity... and man, are they making a fool out of her. You'd think her parents would have educated her on how the world works- perhaps she wouldn't have turned out to be such a useful idiot for the DNC.
The Democrats know perfectly well Obama's poll numbers are going to be in the toilet by 2012, so they've opted for pre-emptive attacks and character assasination on all fronts- and as far as they're concerned, the best defense is a good offense, coupled to Alinsky-style diversions. As indicated by their substantial efforts in her direction, Governor Palin has clearly emerged in their minds as the gravest threat to an Obama 2nd term.
And what a coincidenceit is then, that all this specious "advice" for the GOP coming from Team Obama, Pelosi, Reid, assorted B-league RINOs, and the press just happens to involve the party abandoning the principles that bring it votes and/orconflict with the Obama agenda. All this in order to morph into some sort of Obama-lite, and a silent partner in Obama's stealthy, yet radical makeover of this country. Hey liberals, if we wanted your "advice"- don't you think we'd ask for it?
It’s also not difficult to see why Democrats might prefer to banter playfully about made-up GOP “scandals” and irrelevancies like Meghan’s latest drivel than debate Obama’s ongoing destruction of the country-
Back in (MSM-ignored) reality, Obama is being largely humiliated overseas, and this weekAl Jazeeraharshly criticized Obama'stepid and useless "support" for the protesters in Iran- who even this pan-Arabic news network said were largely pro-American. Oh well, they won't be anymore by the time Obama's done allying himself with their slave-masters- and since they're mostly the young and educated of Iran, they will be hating us for the next 50 years now. Note that Chairman Osure didn't waste any time in voicing support for a corrupt Honduran leftist, though.
North Korea's already telling us they're going to fire missilesright at us- could you imagine that crackpot trying this onReagan'swatch? He'd have made it abundantly clear that if they struck us, Pyongyang would be turned into a glass-floored, self-lighting parking lot. What does Obama do? Issue some wishy-washy statement of "concern"- then cowers under his desk.

Meanwhile, the socialist bastions of Germany and Hungary this weekboth enacted tax cuts to stimulate their economies... a stark contrast to the United States' precarious path.
What is becoming apparent is that when the Democrats' reckless pork-n-welfare spending spree fails to create any real economic gains -but stokes vicious inflation and crashes the dollar instead- the Democrats will face significant setbacks in November 2010- which is now only 16 mos away.
The moment is fast approaching when the propaganda and immoral attacks on Palin, Jindal, and others are as exposed and despised as the Democrats' serial mismanagement of America is destined to be. There is then to be a heavy electoral price for the Democrats... while history is likely to be an even harsher judge. This could play-out as the largest wasted political opportunity of all time, with the Democratic Party not wholly-entrusted with the purse strings ever again, once we all digest the price for the catastrophic folly ofObamamania.
The employment of such bad-faith media disinformation tactics -coupled to the plastic, disingenuous front that Obama presents- is absolutely un-American. Sadly, this fits-right-in with the rest of his statist, anti-freedom agenda.Many in this country are belatedly coming to realize these things... and they don't like it. Yet another reason to put the grownups back in charge next fall-
If this churlish ogre really thinks jokes about "knocking up" a 14 yr old are funny- he's an even worse mess than previously suspected... and should be promptly locked-up. Letterman now tells us in his pathetic non-apology that he actually meant to cruelly mock 18 y.o. Bristol Palin on his national TV show, the OTHER innocent teenage daughter of Sarah Palin- good grief. I say give Todd Palin five minutes alone with this creep- maybe then he'd get the hard education in moral clarity that he so obviously lacks.
David Letterman is not a well-adjusted person, to say the least... and it's very difficult to conjure-up empathy for unhappy and cruel- yet rich, famous people who fell into their dream job. But regardless of his countless blessings, ol' Dave’s got a lot of hangups- and clearly has myriad issues with women, likely due to the fact that he was a friendless geek and major chick repellant in HS and college... by his own admission. You ever seen the guy back in the 70s when he was an Indiana weatherman? He's such a dork it makes you squirm just to watch.
But unhappy people with psychological issues -instead of getting the help they need- have a tendency to tell themselves that they're "just fine" -everyone else is nuts- and they can also be very cruel towards those they are envious of. They'll justify almost any immoral action employed to define their target in a way that makes them feel better about themselves- if even for just a minute. A happy, confident, socially-comfortable and attractive person like Sarah Palin is everything the confused and troubled Letterman could never be... and could never have, either- plus her success also discredits his misguided liberal world-view. Thus the classless, vindictive "humor" he spews.
Letterman inexplicably holds working-class women -like flight attendants- in contempt, as noted by Michelle Malkin. He insults them every night as if normal people with a real job are some sort of laughing stock- apparently being a snarky, condescending elitist makes him feel superior to everyone else, even though in reality he's just a gangly schmoe from Indiana. You get the feeling Letterman is basically jealous of anyone who's well-adjusted and content- and he's always been the sarcastic, bitter outsider. Homely wierdos with an oversize ego like Phil Spector who get famous and powerful -then wonder why women don’t bow to them- are always a bit creepy. Since Letterman married a frumpy woman who looks like Peppermint Patty, keeps her locked-away from the public like the Taliban, and has even mentioned on-air that Palin "arouses" him- it's not too hard to see that this guy's got some troubling issues he needs to find a better way of dealing with.
Add to that the fact that he's yet another aging boomer desperate for the Obama Administration to validate his clueless lifelong liberal views, and you have a formula that compelled this twisted individual to make such appalling comments about Sarah Palin and her family. But David Letterman knows perfectly well what his "jokes" were tasteless, unfunny, and cruel- and he should be fired for it. Time to hang it up Dave… your tired old schtick is about as funny as a train wreck.
There's a new website "FireDavidLetterman.com" that's worth a look for those looking to take the next step and put a stop to the growing occurrence of such cruel, tasteless slander of worthy individuals. If the media is given license to attack and denigrate whomever they wish for political reasons, why would anyone worth a damn be willing to endure such a treatment? No wonder we're stuck with a power-mad, fraudulent charlatan like Obama... talented, experienced, good-faith individuals have little reason to subject themselves to such certain media abuse.
If you didn't catch Sarah Palin's discussion of the whole issue on the Today Show, I would really recommend that you check it out- a strong performance on hostile turf that displays Palin's impressive progress in learning to deal with a manipulative and disingenuous leftist press corps... one of her best so-far:
Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion- not to mention when MSNBC parent General Electric's ties and deals with the Obama administration are fully exposed.
And speaking of Obama's adoring poodles over at MSNBC, John Ziegler sure did a great job in his interview regarding Palin vs. Letterman- where he put MSNBC drone Contessa Brewer into spin-mode... this guy’s really pretty funny.
Ziegler -who famously exposed John Kerry's 2003 line to Pasadena students that if they didn't study hard they would get "stuck" fighting in Iraq- has recently shot a documentary "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected" -a clip of which has gone YouTube viral- and seems to be greatly enjoying confrontational promotional appearances and interviews with the very same media he's implicated in the film. I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot from John as his career evolves- he's a clever, entertaining, and intelligent conservative... and the kid's got talent (scratch golfer, too-).
