The Year was 1947...

Roswell, New Mexico:

On July 8, 1947 -63 years ago- witnesses claim that an unidentified flying object (UFO) with five aliens aboard crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico. This was of course a legendary incident that many claim has been comprehensively covered-up ever since by the U.S. Air Force and other federal agencies and organizations.

However, what you may NOT know is that in the subsequent months, on-into 1948, the following cluster of births occured:

Albert A. Gore, Jr.
Hillary Rodham
John F. Kerry
William J. Clinton
Howard Dean
Nancy Pelosi
Dianne Feinstein
Charles E. Schumer
Barbara Boxer

See what happens when aliens breed with
sheep and jackasses...?

I hope this clears up a few of things for you... sure did for me

PS- just kidding... Snopes shot this one down hard...
and I knew Pelosi was a bit older than that...
-thanks anyway, Roberto- lol

ObamaCare Endorsements Bought & Paid-For... Chicago Style

D
ick Morris
has a useful summary today of the bribes that Team Obama have been dishing-out in order to pass socialized HC against rising public opposition... and perhaps save his floundering agenda.

Did anyone believe for a minute they were endorsing this monstrosity on it's merits?
  • The AARP got a financial windfall in return for its support of the healthcare bill... which explains what this group -which has morphed into a huge insurance company- endorsed ObamaCare against the wishes of a majority of it's members. Now -if this bill becomes law- the elderly will have to pay more for coverage under Medigap... but the AARP -which supposedly represents them- will make more money.
  • The drug industry has backed ObamaCare and, in return, got a 10-year limit of $80 billion on cuts in prescription drug costs. (nothing for them, they project cca $3 trillion total cost over the next decade.)
  • Insurance companies got access to 40 million potential new customers. But when the Senate Finance Committee lowered the fine that would be imposed on those who don't buy insurance from $3,500 to $1,500, the insurance companies jumped ship and now oppose the bill...

The only relevant industry that refused to surrender to the thuggish Obama and crew was the medical device makers... they took a principled stand and refused the Dear Leader's extortion attempts.

So the Senate Finance Committee retaliated by imposing a tax on medical devices such as automated wheelchairs, pacemakers, arterial stents, prosthetic limbs, artificial knees and hips and other necessary accoutrements of healthcare.

Not to mention how they bought votes via the most anti-democratic methods/borderline fraud imaginable- Exhibit A being how Pelosi's handpicked lackey Bill Owens was bankrolled and apparently instructed to make disingenuous pledges in the NY-23 special election -specifically claiming opposition to the public option- only to break four campaign promises in his first hour on the Hill and vote for PelosiCare anyway.

Of course he will be tossed out in a year by an angry and regretful constituency, and mor likely than not replaced by Doug Hoffman... but Owens will get some cush job or retainer from the Dems for this appalling treachery and just fade-away... what does he care, he's already shown us he's a morally bankrupt opportunist who doesn't mind lying to your face when he thinks it serves his purposes.

PelosiCare: Buy What You're Told... or Go to Prison!

As despised statist slush-head Nancy Pelosi attempts to sneak her latest version of ObamaCare past us, it doesn't take much digging through the 1900+ page monstrosity to find why she's abandoning pledges to post the bill online, and in such a hurry to bring a vote... regardless of weak and declining support from all quarters.

Now ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) has released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that this outrageous legislation includes draconian measures to force the mandatory purchase of a cca $15,000 of HC insurance... and that those in non-compliance with the unprecedented and un-American individual mandate would be subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and even imprisonment of up to five years...
Criminal penalties:
Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:
• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]
When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.
“The Senate Finance Committee had the good sense to eliminate the extreme penalty of incarceration. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to leave in the jail time provision is a threat to every family who cannot afford the $15,000 premium her plan creates. Fortunately, Republicans have an alternative that will lower health insurance costs without raising taxes or cutting Medicare,” said Camp.
According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.
Hey Blue Dogs... are you seriously willing to end your political career for Nancy Pelosi?

Why? What's in it for you... and your constituents? Hard to imagine why anyone would allow themselves to be hectored into taking-one-for-the-team and incurring the wrath of the nation... when this arrogant socialist twit wouldn't spit on you if your hair was on fire.

Do the right thing now- and kill this pig... there's no future in backing Obama's radical plans anymore. Vote for this highly unpopular bill at your peril... as SanFranNan will leave you twisting-in-the-wind next fall, of that you can be sure.

AMA May Be Forced to Withdraw It's ObamaCare Endorsement

In a surprising development -and a hideous shock for the White House- the American Medical Association's much-hyped endorsement of ObamaCare may have to be withdrawn due to a significant number of it's members now in open rebellion against it.

This deals a double-blow to Obama, as he was trumpeting the AMA's support proudly this week -even making a surprise appearance in the WH press room to announce the endorsement. He also found it highly useful in attempting to legitimize the AARP's dubious backing of the legislation and lend moral support... as they've inexplicably endorsed it against the wishes of most of their members, too.

This today at Politico:
The American Medical Association’s decision to endorse the House reform bill before its members had a chance to weigh in has dissenting factions threatening a “showdown” this weekend.
Opponents of the group’s endorsement are planning to introduce multiple resolutions to rescind or amend the AMA’s nod, according to an official whose doctor group opposes today’s endorsement.
“All is not happy in Denmark. There is a split within the ranks of the physician community,” the official said. “Clearly, the AMA does not represent the views of all physicians.”
In fact, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons announced their opposition to the House bill today. ...
Some AMA members are upset that the association plowed forward with an endorsement ahead of their meeting this weekend in Houston. Also grumbling about the AMA’s endorsement are state medical associations in Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, the official said.
Former AMA president Stormy Johnson is preparing a resolution to rescind the endorsement, sources said. And the surgeons are introducing a resolution that would call on the AMA to actively oppose any legislation that includes a public option or a temporary doc fix or that doesn’t include medical malpractice reform.

Outrageous: Pelosi’s Bill Will Punish States Who Pass Tort Reform!

Can you believe it? Avoiding tort reform -which would save an estimated $540B-while screwing the rest of us wasn't enough... now Pelosi wants to tie the states' hands to keep them from annoying DNC donors, too-

This from Andrew Breitbart's Big Government:

The health care bill recently unveiled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi is over 1,900 pages for a reason. It is much easier to dispense goodies to favored interest groups if they are surrounded by a lot of legislative legalese. For example, check out this juicy morsel to the trial lawyers (page 1431-1433 of the bill):
Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,” establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.
So, you can’t try to seek alternatives to lawsuits if you’ve actually done something to implement alternatives to lawsuits. Brilliant! The trial lawyers must be very happy today!
While there is debate over the details, it is clear that medical malpractive lawsuits have some impact on driving health care costs higher. There are likely a number of procedures that are done simply as a defense against future possible litigation. Recall this from the Washington Post:
“Lawmakers could save as much as $54 billion (per annum) over the next decade by imposing an array of new limits on medical malpractice lawsuits, congressional budget analysts said today — a substantial sum that could help cover the cost of President Obama’s overhaul of the nation’s health system.
New research shows that legal reforms would not only lower malpractice insurance premiums for medical providers, but would also spur providers to save money by ordering fewer tests and procedures aimed primarily at defending their decisions in court..."
Stay tuned. There are certainly many more terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad provisions in this massive bill.
Let there be no doubt, this bill is bad news... and in ways you haven't even thought-of yet! As the man said, stay tuned...

BEWARE SanFranNan's 1900+ page Frankenstein

Cornell Law Prof. William Jacobson said at Le.gal In.sur.rec.tion it only took him "minutes" to find "profound stupidity" in the House version of ObamaCare:
This provision creates incentives for businesses to keep down payroll. One way would be not to hire anyone whose compensation would fall under the definition of payroll under the bill.
In other words, outsource whatever you can. Hire a software engineer in India, or ship manufacturing to China, or structure your business in such a way that you send 1099s not W-2s to the people who work for you...
The message of the bill is that whatever you do, if you want to grow your business without paying the health care tax, do not add employees.
Obama does not understand these provisions. Obama gave a speech this morning in which he stated that these provisions are directed at small businesses operating on thin margins. But these provisions have nothing to do with profit margins. This is a wage-based tax.
Obama does not understand the difference between profit margins and wages. This is exactly what you would expect from someone who always has been on the receiving end of wages, and never had to meet a payroll...

Pelosi Backs-Off Deal with Blue Dogs... and Makes a Hard Left

I
n
a pending act of mass political suicide,
SanFranNan appears prepared to try and ram-through the increasingly unpopular ObamaCare proposal... even including the highly-controversial "public option"-a de facto nationalization of the US health insurance industry. Such an overreaching, hubristic move in the face of surging public opposition will ensure the 100-seat loss that some are already predicting in November 2010.

Might she be under pressure from the WH to shove this proposal -with zero compromise- through the House... so Dingy Harry can use reconciliation in the Senate to foist this statist monstrosity upon us? Perhaps it's the only way they feel it'll ever pass now, but even if Pelosi could get enought moderates to stick-out-their-necks on this bill -and there's plenty of question there- it is far from certain that Reid can even get the 50 votes needed for this dubious parliamentary maneuver... so much for that cock-a-hoop 60-seat super-majority.

Mike Soroghan reports in The Hill that
Speaker Pelosi is backing away from a deal she cut with centrists to advance health reform, said a source familiar with talks.
Pelosi’s decision to move away from the agreement that was made with a group of Blue Dogs to get the bill out of committee would steer the healthcare legislation back to the left as she prepares for a floor vote.
Pelosi is planning to include a government-run public option in the House version of the healthcare bill. She wants to model it on Medicare, with providers getting reimbursed on a scale pegged to Medicare rates.
"The speaker is full-steam-ahead," said a senior Democratic aide.
...Blue Dog Democrats, many of whom represent rural districts where Medicare reimbursement rates are low, vehemently oppose tying the public option to Medicare.

What if ObamaCare Can't Even Pass the House?

We've heard a lot of discussion re how any ObamaCare bill rammed-through the House would have a difficulty in the Senate- especially if it includes the "public option"... something most serious people recognize as a defacto nationalization of the HC insurance industry.

And although the White House has been forced to soften their stance on HC proposals, Pelosi is vowing to pass the unpopular legislation -including a public option- later this month. But that's just cloud talk, IMO... SanFranNan is also the one who told us there'd be "500 million jobs lost a month" if we didn't pass the bloated and ineffective Porkulus bill- this crazy old bird says all sorts of things.

Back in reality, Democrats in the House are starting to smell a loser, and can increasingly envision an scenario in which they put their neck-on-the-line for Obama, only to have the bill stopped cold in the Senate- and they don't feel like being bagholders for a President who's poll numbers are in the toilet himself. It's not only the Blue Dogs anymore, either- opposition is nuanced and varied.

We now hear of how the President needs to "restore a sense of crisis" to pass this HC "reform"- however since most Americans don't feel there's any crisis here that calls for spending trillions in the midst of a harsh recession, this would require him to lay some sort of alarmist fiction on us. Not a stretch for Barrack, but that doesn't mean anyone's going to buy it now that he's squandered most of his credibility.

Besides, Smitty at The Other McCain sees plenty of crisis in the raging ObamaCare debate... just not the type the White House is looking for.

Just sit-back and watch the rats scatter if Obama slips any farther in the polls... which would mean low 40s- or even in the 30s... ouch. Or, if public opposition to this legislation gets one speck worse...

But this all now seems a looming certainty... as Dan Riehl told us, over 10,000 protesters gathered in Illinois yesterday for a TEA party demonstration (pic links too). Team Obama's slander of this patriotic citizen's movement has clearly backfired... along with just about everything else his crew has employed to smother/smear those opposed to his outrageous agenda.

The Hill reports:
At least 23 House Democrats already have told constituents or hometown media that they oppose the massive healthcare overhaul touted by President Barack Obama.
If Republicans offer the blanket opposition they’ve promised, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) can afford to lose only 38 members of her 256-member caucus and still pass the bill.
... But deleting the public option won’t make life easier for Pelosi.
At least 60 liberal Democrats have pledged to vote against a healthcare bill with no public option, which they view as watered-down reform.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) has said dropping the public option completely would lose 100 Democratic votes.
This Illinois post-turtle doesn't have much experience at making difficult and/or principled decisions- but still worse for Obama, being pragmatic might not help anymore- there's no apparent face-saving victory through compromise remaining. And it may not pass with OR without the public option at this point. There remains a lot of undecided votes too, but it's hard to imagine them all going the Democrats' way, given the unpopularity of the bill and with the Dear Leader's mojo evaporating.
Both Krauthammer and Dick Morris wrote this week that Obama has painted himself into a corner with his radical agenda, politically tone-deafness, and towering, self-righteous arrogance...
Morris:
He obviously can’t get 60 votes in the Senate for his health-care proposals in their current form. No Republican will support them, and moderate Democrats aren’t likely to vote with him.
If he tries to pass it with 50 votes, using so-called reconciliation procedures, he may also fail — because he’d also lose the votes of less-moderate Democrats who’d quail at using parliamentary tricks to pass such a radical, unpopular program.
If Obama waters down his proposals to attract moderate support, he’d lose votes on the left — perhaps more than he’d gain, at this point.
Yet the longer he takes to resolve this political problem, the more his ratings will slip — diminishing his power to achieve anything. No president with support in the 30s would be able to push through a program like his health-care agenda.
It now looks like health-care reform will cripple the Obama presidency, as it did Bill Clinton’s in 1993.

Krauthammer:
After a disastrous summer -- mistaking his mandate, believing his press, centralizing power, governing left, disdaining citizens for (of all things) organizing
- Obama is in trouble.
____________________________

Failure to pass this bill in the Senate -let alone the House- while the ill-advised Cap-n-Tax also dies a very public death would mean most of the Hope-n-Change legislative agenda shot down in a legislative branch the Democrats dominate... with only the ineffectual $800B Porkulus bill passed- one Obama now probably wishes he didn't own.

This is surely a plausible outcome in this month's coming drama... one from which our Narcissist-in-Chief would have great difficulty recovering from by mid-terms -a mere 15 mos from now- if ever.
